The PlayStation currently carries most of the weight of console gaming. It’s proved itself in the handful of years since its release as the king of the hill. A statement that Microsoft has acknowledged as well. And rightly so because of how aesthetically pleasing, challenging, and visually stunning titles are spewed out for the console regularly. A big component of these are story-driven, single-player games.
When it comes to solo games, the horror niche takes up a big chunk of the revenue-generating pie. Horror games have a knack for setting challenges in multiple aspects. First off, the sheer terror they induce in the player and then churn it with additional goodies such as timed puzzles, multiple decisions that affect the storyline and emotionally gripping cut scenes.
If you’re looking for a good horror game that is available for the next-gen PS console or its older brother, the PS4, then head on down below to find a selection that is as good as it is petrifying.
The Last of Us
If you’re looking for a title that promises adventure along with bone-chilling situations where you’ll be jumping at shadows, the Last of Us is your go-to game. Developed by the same studio that produced the Uncharted series, The Last of Us is what you get when you throw a destitute but resilient girl into a post-apocalyptic world with a father figure who is ready to plow down anyone in their way.
The Last of Us has it all. A gripping storyline, multiple characters that undergo character development, a gorgeous render of Seattle, and lots of ways to clear stages. It’s a true survival game that doesn’t use fiction to explain why the setting is the way it is. The game makes an active effort to keep its boots on the ground while the player progresses through it.
Dead by Daylight
If you’re leaning more toward the multiplayer side, then Dead by Daylight is just the title to satiate yourself with. The game takes inspiration from multiple horror movies, including the classics, to bring an amalgamation of characters that players will have fun playing as or running away from.
That’s right, you can play in a team of up to four players to fend off evil and survive till the break of dawn or become the predator and track down your prey in truly gruesome fashion.
Since this is a multiplayer game, it’s advisable to have a viable internet connection at the ready so you can enjoy the game to its fullest with your mates. Having a stellar internet communications company like Spectrum backing you up would ensure you encounter zero hiccups when playing Dead by Daylight.
Link up with them by simply reaching out to the Spectrum Customer Service and following a few simple steps to get started with your positively horrifying experience. Only in the game, of course.
Resident Evil 4
RE 4 revisits the adventures of Leon S. Kennedy, now in full HD with 4k upscaling, as he discovers a rural community that has something off about it right from the get-go. The entire game takes place in Spain and the player has to fight through hordes of enemies associating themselves with a religious cult.
Of course, no Resident Evil can be complete without an alien entity in the shadows. In this title, Leon discovers that the inhabitants of the village he is asked to investigate are all infected by a mind-controlling parasite. Said alien is also feeding off them to strengthen itself in the process. Good luck trying not to puke.
Dying Light 2 Staying Human
If Assassins Creed and Farcry ever had a baby, it’d be this. Dying Light 2 is a brilliant example of what happens when a society gets too greedy with money and turns into a whole society of rampaging zombies. Between all these psycho wack jobs is our character, who knows a good bit of fighting but is comfortably adept at parkour.
Enjoy jumping, sliding, running, and pummeling through enemies as you do your best to stay alive, and above all, staying human. There’s a good bit of fun involved if you do turn into the same thing that’s trying to kill you but we won’t spoil the fun for you.
Martha is Dead
A recent addition to narrative-driven horror games, Martha is Dead serves as an epic crescendo of what horror games try to achieve. Scaring the absolute **** out of you. The game is what you get if Five Nights at Freddy’s was put on weed and then pumped full of steroids. Don’t get us wrong, it’s an epic game to experience but you better be ready for jump scares that will make you wet your pants. Just a little, if you’re playing on easy mode.
Conclusion
That’s a wrap on all five games that we guarantee you’d be doing justice to your money if you buy. PlayStation regularly has sales going on so keep checking for any of these titles getting a few bucks slashed off their original price. Stay frosty!
